GMR Varalakshmi Foundation started a vocational training center in Delhi in October 2009 with the purpose of empowering urban youth. The focus of the Centre is on imparting good quality skill training along with life skill inputs and facilitation of suitable placement opportunities for the trainees.
GMRVF has created State-of-the-Art residential vocational training facilities equipped with classrooms, workshops, kitchens and dormitories, library and seminar hall. The centre is located near to IGI Gate No-15; at Shahbad Muhhamadpur; Dwarka. The centre is well equipped to provide 7-8 short-term vocational trainings programs at any point of time. The main criteria for selection are the economic background and the educational qualifications of the students. Preference is given to trainees from Mehram Nagar and other areas near the airport, and for youth from Savda Ghevra.
CEL-D conducts short term (2 – 4 months) market linked employability skills training program for the youths in the age group of 18-35 years such as Basic Electrical, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Basic Computer, Air Cargo Handling, Cleaning Maintenance and Facility Support; Health Therapy and Apparel Designing and others. Most of these training programs are delivered with Industry partners like Schneider Electric, Voltas, CELEBI, Four Fountain Spa etc. with about 65% weightage on the Practical hands on training.
CEL-D has also a robust module for trainee’s soft skills building to enhance their employability skills.
CEL-D also conducts airport related vocational training programs as per the requirement with the support of Delhi International Airport Ltd.
It has also facilitated recruitment of more than 90 baggage screeners at the IGI Airport in Delhi over the period of last two years. Currently it is running two air cargo related training programs on regular basis.
So far, the center has trained over 4800 youth in different trades. Of the trained youth, about 4200 are settled in different jobs or enterprises.
