GMR Varalakshmi Centre for Empowerment & Livelihoods (GMRVCEL) - Bangalore

The vocational training centre in Bangalore was started in October 2009 to impart quality skill training along with life skill inputs to dropout youth. Equal focus is given on facilitating suitable job placements for the trainees.

At present, GMRVCEL, Bangalore is running four market oriented courses- Basic Computers, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning (in partnership with Voltas), Electrical training (in partnership with Schneider Electric) and Industrial Tailoring. Along with quality training, life skills and spoken English classes, the trainees are exposed to real work situations through structured field visits. Trainees are given free bus passes to commute from their homes to the Centre and back.

Highlights

So far, the institute has trained over 3200 candidates of whom over 2900 are placed.

Life skill inputs and spoken English training are provided besides technical inputs.

Good networking with NGOs helps in mobilizing candidates for the training.

Partnerships have been developed with potential training partners and recruiters.
