We Build

Education Wing

We believe that education is the most powerful tool that one can use to change the world. The Foundation strives to bring quality education through creating state of art educational infrastructure and partnering with well-known education institutions to provide quality education in under-served areas.

Gamyam

In line with the Group’s value of Social Responsibility and with the support of Community Service Wing of GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, a group of students from GMR Institute of Technology initiated community service activities in 2013 under the name ‘GAMYAM’. The team has been offering its services for improving the quality of the lives of under-privileged communities in and around Rajam. As part of its mission, Team GAMYAM has been undertaking many activities including Career counselling for the students of Std. X of Govt. Schools; After-school classes for under-privileged children; Special classes on English Grammar, Mathematics, Basics of Computer Education & Soft Skills for students of Std. VIII to X from Govt. Schools; Awareness sessions on Road Safety, Personal Hygiene and Environmental Sanitation; Cashless transactions etc., for school children and village communities.

GAMYAM has now become a sustained activity with students from new batches joining the team as old batch students leave. So far, close to 250 GMRIT students have actively participated in the activities of GAMYAM and reached out to about 25,000 beneficiaries spending over 3200 person hours of time.

Educational Scholarships and Loans

Poverty forces many youth to discontinue their education and with limited qualifications they are deprived of good employment opportunities, which perpetuates the vicious cycle. A small support can help such youth break out of this. With the aim of providing such support, GMRVF provides scholarships and loans to meritorious students who lack finances for pursuing higher education. So far, the Foundation has provided educational scholarships for over 7600 students for schooling and various courses like Intermediate, Degree, Engineering, Post Graduation, Polytechnic, Nursing, etc. About 300 students have got interest-free educational loans for professional education. The primary consideration for giving scholarship is the academic history of the student and the family’s background. The Foundation tracks the academic progress of each student and provides counselling services when necessary. The Foundation also monitors the students' progress by maintaining regular contact with the educational institution where the student is enrolled. Many of the students have become successful professionals in various fields.
