Health Awareness Programs

Well-publicized health awareness sessions using innovative media like street plays, Kalajatha and puppet shows work to create a healthier society. GMRVF regularly conducts health awareness programs and enhances the reach of these programs by involving the youth in rallies and debates to get health and hygiene message across to all sections of community.

Special focus is laid on creating HIV/AIDS awareness among the general public and high-risk individuals in particular.

Highlights

General and specific health awareness camps with focus on diseases like Dengue and Chikungunya, eye, ear, dental problems, HIV/AIDS, H1N1 (Swine Flu) are organized at all Foundation locations.

There is regular involvement of District Health and Education Departments in these programs. Foundation also collaborates with NGOs to conduct the health awareness programs in the villages.

Recognizing the importance of hand-washing, GMRVF focuses on educating the school children and their parents on the importance of hand washing. Several schools were also supported with hand washing facilities and materials.

Awareness programs on Ante-natal and Post-natal Healthcare, Reproductive Child Health etc., are also conducted.

Child-to-child and child-to-community strategies are also adopted to spread vital health messages.

Case Study

Hope Blossoms at Vemagiri!

For orphans who are infected/ affected by HIV, living itself is a great struggle. GMRVF channelizes the support extended by the colleagues of Vemagiri Power Generation Ltd, Rajahmundry and a few ex-servicemen to such children. The employees are providing education support to 113 AIDS orphans. Some children have been provided with bicycles. Further, 25 children are assisted with regular nutritious food support. Foundation facilitates regular Anti Retro Viral therapy and CD4 Count tests (Cluster of Differentiation 4-a glycoprotein whose count is measured to assess the immune system in human beings) for these children in collaboration with the Government Hospital, Rajahmundry. There is a remarkable improvement in the CD4 count of the children.
